Ringing in the New Year Safely: Fire Department Tips
The new year is a time for celebration, but it's important to remember safety first! As your local fire department, we want to help you and your loved ones ring in 2025 safely and joyfully.
Home Fire Safety:
* Check smoke alarms: Test your smoke alarms monthly and replace batteries regularly.
* Create and practice escape plans: Ensure everyone in your household knows two escape routes from each room.
* Never leave cooking unattended: Stay in the kitchen while cooking and turn off the stove if you must leave, even for a short time.
* Keep flammable materials away from heat sources: Don't overload electrical outlets and keep flammable materials like paper and curtains away from heat sources.
* Be mindful of holiday decorations: Use flame-resistant or non-combustible decorations and keep them away from heat sources.
Party Safety:
* Limit alcohol consumption: Impaired judgment can lead to accidents.
* Designate a sober driver: If you plan on drinking, arrange for a designated driver or use a ride-sharing service.
* Never leave candles unattended: Extinguish all candles before leaving a room or going to bed.
